Abstract

Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART) is a great ally in promoting oral health. It consists of a minimal intervention dental treatment, allowing the maximum preservation of the dental structure. This paper aims to report the opinion and experience of dental students on the use of Atraumatic Restorative Treatment in pediatric dental patients. A total of 122 dental students from Salgado de Oliveira University participated in the research. The study included undergraduate dentistry students at the Salgado de Oliveira University, of both sexes and of varying ages. In the questionnaire, composed of 15 questions, questions were addressed about: knowledge about the technique of Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART); student experience in using the ART technique; ease of pediatric care through the technique; effectiveness and mastery of the technique; pretension to use the technique after training. In order to maintain confidentiality about the participants, the names of the graduates will not be disclosed, and the questionnaires will be identified by numbers. The completion of the questionnaire showed that 92.6% of students believe that ART can facilitate pediatric dental care, and 91.7% believe that the technique interrupts the carious process and allows the dental element not to be lost. It is concluded that the Atraumatic Restorative Treatment is well accepted by the students, and because it facilitates pediatric dental care can be defined as the first-choice treatment for the removal of dental caries.
